If you're coming by car come off the northern bypass (A40) st signposts for Marston, left at the mini roundabout and right at the 2nd mini roundabout onto the Marston Road, (heading for Oxford centre). The pub is about 1/2 a mile on the right hand side. Parking in adjacent streets. Otherwise it's a short cycle or bus ride from the centre of town.

What happens?

The night is a chance for local talent to do what they do best, and we enjoy performances from the likes of musicians, poets and comics, plus a few more impromptu or diverse acts. In return we will provide an welcoming and enjoyable atmosphere and of course an enthusiastic welcome for you on stage! Get down to the Somerset Arms!

Each slot is usually about 10 minutes long but if you would like a shorter slot please let us know on the night or before by e-mail. Please e-mail us before the night to be sure of reserving your slot as they go fast. The venue will have a good P.A system set up with options for a couple of microphones. If you don't want to use the mic that's no problem. Keyboards and other instruments can be incorporated but please turn up early at 7.30 to organise this. Otherwise you can use the house equipment.

Check out our open mic night guide.

Since Feb 2003 the BlackCat Open Mic Night has caused a stir down at the Jack Russell pub in Marston. Despite needing a grid reference to find the pub, hundreds of you made it down to join in the fun. See the photos here.
